canoeing on the riverLocated in the Southeast corner of Alberta, the sunny city of Medicine Hat surrounds the beautiful South Saskatchewan River.  The 2008 Municipal Census reported that the city’s population was 3,378 greater than in 2005.  This marks the first year the population was over 60,000 which is a 7.8% increase over the 3 year period.  The age distribution of the population has stayed relatively stable between 2005 and 2008.  In 2005, 24% of Medicine Hat’s population was under the age of 20, this decreased 1% in 2008.  Both the average age of females and males increased slightly, females from 39.6 in 2005 to 39.7 in 2008 and males from 37.3 years of age in 2005 to 36.6 years of age in 2008.

The 2006 Canadian Census reported that 7.6% of the population was foreign born and in 2001 and 2006 Statistics Canada reported the same 3.0% visible minority population.

The 2008 Municipal Census reported that the number of households that had Internet equaled 63%, up from 48% in 2005.

Medicine Hat is home to accomplished athletes and musicians, top business leaders and citizens that develop our community into a diverse, caring, thriving, health environment.

Medicine Hat recently hosted many sporting events including the 2008 Alberta Summer Games, Canada Cup Baseball 2008, Curling Continental Cup 2007.
