HALO Ride Along

August 14, 2009

Medicine Hat's only rescue Helicopter will be grounded in less than a month.  Chat News has learned the Southern Alberta Medicare Society confirms is suspending operations of the HALO helicopter.  It will be officially grounded beginning September 1st. The decision came Monday night, as there is not enough money left to keep HALO operating.  The chopper is funded almost exclusively through public donations. Society Chair Gerald Gaede says Fundraising drives will continue and he's hoping the helicopter will re launch this spring if not sooner.  So - in order to fully appreciate the gravity of the situation, two CHAT reporters took flight, hoping to find out just what HALO has to offer.

Swine Flu School

As the doors prepare to swing open on another school year - education officials in Medicine Hat are dusting off pandemic plans. Since the first swine flu scare made its way to our province - over fifteen hundred Albertans have been infected with H1-N1 with seven falling victim to the new influenza strain. Despite numbers showing more than half of the cases in North America are present in children, school board officials here say they are more prepared than other school districts in the province. Scott Cunningham has more.
