A FEW MORE FINE MEN AND WOMEN HAVE JOINED THE RANKS OF CITY POLICE AFTER THEIR GRADUATION THIS AFTERNOON.  IT'S A DAY TO CELEBRATE THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND YET RECOGNIZE THE BEGINNING OF THEIR CAREERS AS OFFICERS OF THE LAW FOR THE CITY OF MEDICINE HAT.  IT WAS ALSO AN EMOTIONAL CEREMONY. AS KYLE BAKX TELLS US ---  ONE OF THE GRADS WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO.

A Medicine Hat resident has been chosen to spear-head a province-wide initiative -- to create a handbook dealing with sexual assault.  The manual is being produced for the Alberta Association of Sexual Assault Centres.  And as Kyle Bakx reports -- this type of project -- has never been done before.

Alberta Health Service Cuts

Amidst talk of a record provincial deficit --- the Alberta health authority is forecasting a second round of cost cutting measures for the fall and winter months. Alberta Health Services is struggling with a budget covered in red ink--- and while the province's new health authority is already slashing 650 million dollars --- top officials say it's not enough to balance the books. The governing body of health has made it clear that further cost trimming is not to affect patient care.  But as Scott Cunningham tells us - that has many local front line workers wondering just how that will be possible.

Alberta Budget Deficit

The federal government continued its trend this summer of making weekly funding announcements throughout the region.  But when it comes to the provincial government -- the funds haven't been flowing as steady -- and probably wont increase either. It was announced today -- Alberta is facing a record 7- billion-dollar deficit.  And as Kyle Bakx reports -- government officials now warn deeper cuts are coming as the province prepares to trim billions of dollars from the budget.

Save Old Souls Dog Rescue

A local non-profit organization is under an extreme amount of pressure, and officials say its the areas four legged friends who are paying the price. Just two weeks ago the S.O.S  K-9 rescue foundation had 26 dogs from a suspected breeding project dropped off on their door step--- almost doubling their current number of animals. Scott Cunningham caught up with one of the organizations foster parent volunteers.
