In the effort to combat crime, the Medicine Hat Police Service is getting ready to employ a new tool.  A small group of Medicine Hat police officers have recently returned from a unique training program.  It focuses on preventing crime through the design of neighborhoods, parks and even your home. And as Kyle Bakx reports, a simple thing like a front porch on your house could deter criminals. 

Medicine Hat Bowler Wins National Championship

You probably wouldn't think of bowling as an overly lucrative sport. But for one Hatter it's proving to be just that. A few months ago Penny Hepfner squared off in the TSN Canadian 5 pin bowling championship, nailing 3 mid-game strikes en route to victory over Quebec's Helene Godmaire. She has been bowling for 31 years, and as Jeremy Hunka reports, it just paid off in a big big way.

Event Centre Update

The event centre project for Medicine Hat is still very much alive -  although it is safe to say little progress has been made since the city chose a site last summer. No announcements have since been made and no funding has been secured. But officials say negotiations are still taking place on a number of fronts.  Reporter Kyle Bakx has the story

Body Found near Public Library

The investigation is over -- but questions still remain after the discovery of a body outside the public library.  The man is suspected to be homeless as he was found dead, in the fetal position, in the cold.  But the local man was employed by a business in the city and had a fixed residential address.  Kyle Bakx reports.

Recycling Overflow January 6, 2008

The City of Medicine Hat is getting ready to make a major investment in recycling.  Every month recycling records are being broken here in our city, but that trend is causing headaches at the recycling facility.  They've simply run out of room.  And as reporter Kyle Bakx tells us, the city is now looking towards expansion -- or building a whole new facility.
