It's well known the oil and gas industry does not have the best environmental reputation. But new technology in our area may make you think otherwise.  For about a year now, Calgary based Global energy has been working on a solar and wind powered gas well.  But can Oil and Gas really be green?  Jeremy Hunka went to find out.

There are fears a major funding source for the thousands of non-profit groups in Alberta could be cut from the next provincial budget.  The source of money is the Wild Rose foundation -- which distributes lottery money.  The non-profit community is worried the funding could be stopped -- after an official with the Wild Rose foundation leaked the information.  And as reporter Kyle Bakx discovered -- it would be damaging news to many organizations in Medicine Hat.

How much is that doggy in the window? Well, more than you might think. Two members of Medicine Hats police service are bound for Chicago this weekend to sniff out a new police service dog. One of Medicine Hats four canines is set to retire from active duty, and the local force is in the market for a new pooch.
Reporter Scott Cunningham sat down with some long time K-9 officers and discovered the lengths they will go to get the right dog for the job.

Esplanade Meeting

The expansion of our regional hospital has come under scrutiny lately and that scrutiny, continued today as four Alberta MLA's were in Medicine Hat.  The annual meeting, organized by the Palliser Economic Partnership, comes just days before the provincial budget is announced on Tuesday.  There were over a dozen items on the agenda, but health care and some serious questions about the future of the expansion dominated discussions.  Reporter Kyle Bakx has the story.

Sweeping changes to the way health care is governed, and administered in Alberta came through today.  Alberta Health services officially takes over as the one health authority in the province.   It marks a huge change from the way things were previously run, with the Palliser region now no more - absorbed within this new body.  Reporter Scott Cunningham with what might affect you.

A local drama group is going further than perhaps, they've ever dreamed. "The Distance between L-O-V-and E" is a Medicine Hat High school play, but soon will hit the theatre of theatres, New York city itself.  As Jeremy Hunka found, it's a chance these young actors couldn't pass up.

Kinsmen Home Lotto

April 1, 2009

It will be one of the most expensive houses to ever be given away through the Kinsmen Home Lotto.  Located in the Southlands, the nearly-completed house has a value of over half-a-million dollars. A big reason for the price tag -- the home has been awarded a Platinum ranking for its high level of energy efficiency.  It's the first house in the city to receive the distinction, according to the builder.  Reporter Kyle Bakx was given a sneak peek today.
