Dunmore Road Traffic Light Synchronization

November 6, 2009

It's one of Medicine Hat's most congested arteries, but technicians are now in the process of synchronizing the lights on Dunmore Road.  Implementation began yesterday, with traffic signals expected to be fully adjusted within the coming months.  As Jeremy Hunka reports, officials say your Dunmore travel time, is about to be cut by up to twenty percent.

A vote this week to move towards abolishing the long gun registry is being celebrated by local hunters.  The registry isn't completed gone, but progress is being made in Ottawa. As Kyle Bakx reports, the decision caught many local hunters off-guard, although they welcome the news.

Flu Clinic Resumes

From coast to coast -- Canadians are being strongly urged to get their swine flu shots when they become available because the worst is yet to come. The country's top health official said today that deaths from the H-1-N-1 virus are three times higher this week than last -- as the pandemic surges across Canada.  Here in Medicine Hat, clinics re-opened this morning, but only for a small portion of the population.  Kyle Bakx reports.

One church has suspended communion - another frowns upon people shaking hands.  As Kyle Bakx reports, these are just some of the lengths people are taking, to avoid the H1N1 virus.

Alberta's massive vaccination campaign has moved to plan B. Just one week into the provinces pandemic plan, vaccine ran out forcing immunization sites to close their doors to thousands waiting for a shot. Officials confirm the campaign is back on the rails, but as Scott Cunningham tells us --- not everyone in our city is pleased with the changes

It wasn't on the agenda, but there was still discussion at last night's city council meeting -- about trying to sell a vacant lot in the downtown.  That's the piece of land the city tried to sell for a single dollar earlier this year.  It turns out, a second offer was made this fall.  As Kyle Bakx reports, officials expect its just the tip of the iceberg and more interest will be shown in the coming weeks.

There was a light agenda for Monday's city council meeting -- but there was still interesting discussion on why construction isn't complete, on Finlay bridge.  Not only that, but Alderman again brought up the First Street property-- which almost sold for one dollar-- earlier this year.  As it turns out, another verbal offer was made this fall.  Kyle Bakx reports.
