Brooks Maternity

Alberta Health Services has announced the long closed obstetric unit in that city will re-open in July. Since January of 2009 expectant mothers in Brooks have been forced to travel for care. Scott Cunningham now with a story on how the rebirth in Brooks is being met with some skepticism.

The mood was gloomy at a city committee meeting on Wednesday.  New figures show the city needs to spend over 100-million dollars on drainage.  Current infrastructure is too old and new systems have to be built to keep up with growth. It's work that has been put off by past councils, but now it seems the projects can't be delayed any longer.  Reporter Kyle Bakx has the story.

Medicine Hat will be getting a new piece of public art. The City will be welcoming a new statue to recognize our communities German heritage . Channel, Prada, and Louis Vuitton - brands some shoppers dream of owning - but not generally if they're  fake. Medicine Hat police have busted the largest counterfeit ring in our city's history. Investigators searched two homes in the past week and uncovered over one hundred thousand dollars counterfeit goods. Scott Cunningham has more.

Cypress View Issues

The Cypress View Foundation is asking for a property tax hike of about 26 dollars more than last year.  That is a 95 per cent increase for Cypress View -- which provides care for low to moderate income seniors. That set off alarm bells at city council -- with aldermen demanding reasons for the increase.   The city doesn't completely run the organization, but collects a special tax to help fund the foundation.  Reporter Kyle Bakx has the details.

Medicine Hat residents are now facing higher property taxes. City council has approved a nearly 4 per cent increase - effective this year.  In total, the average homeowner will dish out an extra 60 dollars  -- but not all of it will go to the city.  Reporter Kyle Bakx explains.
