Finlay Business

The Finlay bridge was to be completed by October of last year, and now into January blockades remain on both sides of the Medicine Hat landmark. The rehabilitation project was forecast to take only 4 months, but as we near the end of month number 7--some businesses are crying foul. Jeremy Hunka reports, some local establishments are saying the hit to business is not worth the reward, and are seeking compensation.

A new year has brought new liquor regulations for Alberta businesses. As of January first, anyone serving or selling alcohol in licensed venues must have specific training completed. As Ina Sidhu reports, the rules are being welcomed by some local establishments. |

For the fourth year in a row Medicine Hat set a new high in 2009 for the number babies delivered at our regional hospital. Medicine Hat has been able to acquire new doctors to cope with our increase, yet as Scott Cunningham discovered it is a lack of physicians in surrounding area's that is putting pressure on an already overwhelmed maternity ward. |
Police Wages

New figures reveal police in Medicine Hat are paid more than almost anywhere else in Canada. Despite a low crime rate and smaller population, documents obtained by Chat News show our police are paid more than those in Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver. That said, the city says the pay difference is minimal--and our officers are well worth it. Jeremy Hunka reports.

While some are celebrating the "no vote"--others are reeling today. Business leaders in Medicine Hat say a new events centre could bring up to 2 billion dollars in investment. But as Jeremy Hunka tells us, now that new development is being delayed, those investment dollars could be lost.
