Fat Canadians

Weaker and heavier. These are the words used to describe the youth of our country -- as Statistics Canada has released its most comprehensive study ever done on fitness levels across the nation. According to the report, adults aren't doing any better either. Across the board -- fitness levels declined significantly between 1981 and 2009.  As Ina Sidhu finds out, locally efforts are being made to help reverse the trend early on.

Redcliff Assault

A Redcliff couple is reeling after their 15 year old teenager, was beaten just outside their home. Police have charged two teenagers with assault after they allegedly jumped the boy this week, giving him a concussion.  The family says the attack was revenge for nothing but a text message, and the assault, is not an isolated incident.  Jeremy Hunka reports.

Downtown Parking

Finding a parking spot in the downtown can be trying and a true test in patience.  So, after hearing complaints -- one city aldermen is proposing to bring "paid parking", to downtown streets.  Its meant to help businesses -- but as Kyle Bakx reports -- store owners are giving a cold response to the idea.

When the automated garbage program rolled out in Medicine Hat last year -- it completely changed how Hatters throw out the trash.  Now, that same system will affect how you dispose of yard waste.  And as Kyle Bakx tells us, the service may come free of charge.

Suicide Stats

A puzzling picture is emerging tonight, as Hatters digest some troubling statistics.  Police say suicide incidents--including fatalities, suicide attempts, and suicidal threats--have skyrocketed in Medicine Hat. New data shows they've tripled over the last 12 months, ringing alarm bells across the city. Jeremy Hunka takes a closer look at the numbers, addressing what may be a tragic trend.

Police Coping

A Medicine Hat police officer stabbed in an off duty incident is showing signs of improvement. Monday morning police rushed to the home of veteran officer Barry Steier, where their co-worker was found with serious injures. He was rushed to hospital, and then airlifted to Calgary in critical condition. According to police, Steier is breathing on his own. It's a promising turn, but as Scott Cunningham tells us the situation is still weighing on police.
