Foodbank Questions

March 12, 2010

Some angry Medicine Hat residents are voicing their frustrations.  Hatters who have relied on our city's food bank for years, now say they are being turned away--with no other option to feed their families.  But the food bank offers a very different story.  Officials say they're just trying to verify that those who use the food-bank, actually need it.

City Brochure

March 12, 2010

If you happened to pick up a Calgary or an Edmonton Sun from Thursday, you may have come across an insert on Medicine Hat. The two newspapers have featured a 20-page booklet that is also available online, on life in a smaller centre -- like the Hat. Ina Sidhu has more on whether a document like this could convince more people to re-locate to the gas city.

Water Conference

March 12, 2010

A two-day water conference in Medicine Hat wrapped up Friday afternoon.  It's being dubbed by some as a "Scientific Forum."  A hot topic was conservation of groundwater.  That's already relied upon by around 600-thousand Albertans for drinking water -- numbers that are sure to increase. Reporter Kyle Bakx has the story.

Behaviour Bylaw

March 11, 2010

Foul-mouthed Hatters could feel a pinch in their pocketbooks this summer.  The city is looking at introducing a new bylaw that governs behaviour.  That means no loitering, no swearing, no fighting among others.  In other cities with similar bylaws, fines could be up to 500 dollars, but here in Medicine Hat they've yet to be announced.  Reporter Kyle Bakx has the story.

Royalty Review

March 11, 2010

The Alberta government is setting out to win back energy company investment in the province. The Tories say starting next year, royalty rates for the oil and gas industry will be cut and a transitional rate for new wells introduced last year will also become a permanent feature. The government says the net result will be a 363-million dollar reduction in revenue in 2012 and 2013. Ina Sidhu brings us local reaction on changes that are being called "long overdue."

Road Safety

March 10, 2010

A motor vehicle accident can be a harrowing situation, even for those that consider themselves to be experienced drivers. But how many people know what to do if they're involved in a car crash? As Ina Sidhu finds out, less than half of all Canadians feel ready to take proper action.

St. Thomas School

March 10, 2010

A recent letter from the Provincial Government means thousands of parents still don't know where their children will attend school next year.  Alberta's education minister is threatening to postpone part of a massive school reconfiguration model--because it could leave a Medicine Hat French school without a building.  Jeremy Hunka reports.
