Olympic Fever

We are near the mid-way point of the Vancouver Olympics and people in our city are definitely catching Olympic fever.  Bars are busy, flags are flying out of car windows -- and even the mayor is donning Canada's red and white. As reporter Kyle Bakx tells us -- as Hatters feel the spirit, it's also kept cash registers ringing in the city.

Graduating to a new future. A dozen Hatters have collected their diploma's from a brand new program in our city. The course funded by the federal government looks to create a new type of young adult, one that is ready to deal with a post recession Alberta. Scott Cunningham now with a look at the first ever "Kick Start" grads.

It's supposed to remain under wraps for a few more weeks -- but CHAT News Has learned new details -- about a piece of prime property in the downtown.  The city has been asking builders for proposals to develop the land. After the deadline passed in January -- city officials would only they say that they did receive some submissions.  But as Kyle Bakx discovered, they don't have many options to choose from.

Steier Plea Bargain?

In an exclusive story CHAT News has learned the case of an off duty police officer who was stabbed---- may be resolved much earlier than first anticipated. One month ago Thursday, veteran policeman Barry Steier was rushed to hospital with severe stab wounds. Quickly after -  his wife was arrested, and charged with attempted murder. Scott Cunningham has new information that may see the case resolved before it ever goes to trial.

City aldermen tackled two hot button topics Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.  After hearing complaints from residents over snow clearing this winter, that issue made its way back to a city committee.  Also on the agenda, was the ongoing debate over just what to do with the large planters in the downtown.  They were installed to spruce up the area, but critics say they encourage loitering and are a hazard to those who cross the street .  Reporter Kyle Bakx has the story.
